Harris County Commissioners Court Resolution Designating September as National Preparedness Month
WHEREAS, the thirteenth annual National Preparedness slogan, ''Don't Wait, Communicate,"
encourages Americans to take simple steps to prepare for disasters and emergencies of all kinds; and
WHEREAS, while NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH is a nationwide effort held in
September each year, the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) Ready
Campaign promotes individual preparedness at home, in the workplace and throughout
America's communities throughout the year; and
WHEREAS, through FEMA 's Ready Campaign, the Harris County Office ofHomeland
Security and Emergency Management, the Harris Couny First Responder Departments and
the Harris County Citizen Corps seek to transform awareness into action by encouraging all Americans to get an emergency supply kit, make a family emergency plan, be informed
about different threats and to get involved in preparing their communities; and
WHEREAS, the Harris County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management
provides thousands of disaster preparedness brochures and hundreds of presentations each year
for residents to receive this pertinent information: now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED that Harris County Commissioners Court hereby joins in designating the month of September 2016 as
NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH 2016
in Harris County, Texas, and also recognizes that this September marks the 14th anniversary of Harris County Citizen Corps.
It is hereby ORDERED that this Resolution be spread upon the minutes of Commissioners Court this 23rd day of August, 2016.
